CHINA TO SEND 1 BILLION COVID-19 VACCINES DOSES TO AFRICA

Highlights
• This accusation from China doesn’t come as a surprise as it has been considering the island-nation of Taiwan as its own territory

The President Xi Jinping led government of China has accused the American President Joe Biden of making mistake by giving an invitation to Taiwan to take part in a democracy summit. This summit is expected to witness participation of 109 other democratic governments.

This accusation from China doesn’t come as a surprise as it has been considering the island-nation of Taiwan as its own territory. On the other hand, Taiwan distances itself from China and says it is an independent nation.

The country of Taiwan was present in the list of participants regarding next month’s Summit for Democracy, released by the state department on Tuesday.

Criticising the US for inviting the island-nation, Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, said that inclusion of Taiwan was a mistake and Beijing opposed any official interaction between the US and China’s Taiwan region. She further said that this stance is clear and consistent, and they urge the US to stick to the one China principle and the three joint communiques.
