According to top US pandemic advisor and infectious disease export, the indications of the severity of the novel Omicron COVID-19 variant are a bit encouraging. This new variant was first discovered in the country of Botswana in Africa and is considered extremely infectious. Fortunately the number of hospitalizations in the African countries have remained low.

President Biden’s advisor on the pandemic said while it is too early to really make any definitive statement about, until now it does not look like there’s a great degree of severity to it. Dr. Fauci further said that till now, the signals are a bit encouraging but they have really got to be careful before they make any determinations that it is less severe, or it really doesn’t cause any severe illness, comparable to Delta.

Despite all precautionary measures, this new variant has been reported in several countries including the United States, India and Australia.
