A nationwide series of shopping sales, tourism discounts, and pop concerts known collectively as the Korea Sale Festa has finally begun.

Performances and street art will take place in five famous neighborhoods in the country through October 9, including Garosu-gil and Itaewon in Seoul. A number of other shows and events will also follow.

From September 29th to October 9th, at the start of the festival, visitors can get huge discounts at department stores, supermarkets, online shopping sites and traditional wet markets. From October 4th to 7th, online shopping centers “Cyber Hot Days” will offer certain discounts on certain days. A total of 27 online shopping sites take part in the national program and grant discounts on clothing, electronics, cosmetics or household items, up to 70 percent off, every day.

The government has designated a total of 17 traditional wet markets as specialty markets, representing certain local governments across the country in order to attract more buyers and to seek a balanced development and distribution of industries. This year around 400 traditional markets will take part in the festival and will offer their goods at affordable prices with discounts between 10 and 80 percent.
