The 2022 Hollywood’s Screen Actors Guild Awards reveals its nominations, with High fashion drama “House of Gucci,” scoring top nominations for the top prize of best cast and performances of stars Lady Gaga and Jared Leto.
Other remarkable movies – “The Power of the Dog,” a dark Western psychological movie also received three SAG nominations for actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
The films giving competition to “House of Gucci” for best movie cast are “King Richard,” story about the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams; “Belfast,” a story about a family living amid conflict in late 1960s Northern Ireland; “Don’t Look Up,” a comedy that is an allegory about climate change and deaf community story “CODA”.
In “House of Gucci,” singer-actor Lady Gaga plays the character of Patrizia Reggiani, an ambitious outsider who married into the family only to have her former spouse, played by Adam Driver, killed off. Leto here portrays the misunderstood designer Paolo Gucci.
Few other film acting nominees include –
• Ben Affleck nominated for his character as a caring uncle in “The Tender Bar”.
• Will Smith nominated for the title role in “King Richard”.
• While Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem nominated for their roles of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in “Being the Ricardos.”
Steven Spielberg’s critically acclaimed remake of musical “West Side Story” received one nomination for supporting actress Ariana DeBose.
The SAG Awards are scheduled to be organised at a live televised ceremony on Feb. 27.
According to reports, Netflix Inc. recorded to hold the most SAG movie nominations, with seven in total amongst any other film studio, while HBO and HBO Max topped the television field with 14 nods.
The television series “Succession,” a cutthroat corporate family drama and feel-good fish-out-of-water comedy “Ted Lasso” received five nominations each, while South Korean dark drama “Squid Game” landed four nominations.
