Amidst rising tensions over Ukraine, the country of Russia has again refused to rule out deployment of military units to Cuba and Venezuela, and has said that it is exploring options to ensure its security.

According to Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, he is unable to confirm nor exclude the possibility of Moscow sending missiles or other assets to Cuba and Venezuela.

This statement from the Russian deputy foreign minister was made last week following diplomatic talks between Moscow, Washington, NATO and other Western powers were unable to produce a breakthrough in the Ukraine crisis.

Responding to Ryabkov’s statement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that Russia was reviewing different scenarios.

Talking to the reporters via conference call, Kremlin spokesman said that in regards with Latin America, they are talking about sovereign states there, let’s not forget that, and, in the context of the current situation, Russia is exploring options that would ensure its security.
