Over accusations of working with the Russian intelligence services, the United States has slapped sanctions on four Ukrainian nationals. These Ukrainians were working in order to destabilize Ukraine in advance of a possible Russian invasion of the country.
These sanctions were imposed in an attempt to coordinate with Ukraine to help it identify, expose and impose costs” on Ukrainians aligned with Moscow.
Washington has slapped sanctions on two present-day members of Ukrainian parliament, Taras Kozak and Oleg Voloshyn along with Vladimir Sivkovich and Volodymyr Oliynyk.
The US Department of State said that this action is intended to target, highlight, and undercut Russia’s ongoing destabilization effort in Ukraine. It further said that it is separate and distinct from the broad range of high impact measures the United States and its allies and partners are prepared to impose in order to inflict significant costs on the Russian economy and financial system if it were to further invade Ukraine.
