Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) solar cells aim to provide the planet with an abundant, low-energy-producing photovoltaic (PV) solution. The technology also has the theoretical potential to provide electricity at a lower cost than first- and second-generation solar technologies.

Organic Photovoltaic Technology (OPV by Organic PhotoVoltaic) is the environmentally friendly conversion of light energy into directly usable electricity. It is based on polymers of organic chemistry, which are light-sensitive semiconducting polymers.

Taking into account the ecological impact of production, manufacturing and recycling, the overall energy balance of organic cells (OPVs) is very quickly completely positive. Thanks to the organic quality of the processes used by H√ČOLE, the energy consumed in manufacturing and the energy required for recycling can be recovered in a very short time, unlike other solar technologies commonly used in solar panels.

As long as certain quality standards are maintained, we believe that peer-reviewed publications can present information with sufficient precision while providing the benefit of full transparency.

The advantage over current silicon technology is that much lighter and more flexible panels can be built, which can be integrated into a variety of systems and situations at a lower cost. The first practical applications are being designed at Val d’Agri as part of the Energy Valley program, where OPV panels will power horticultural greenhouses and digital agricultural weather controls. Compared to conventional photovoltaic power generation, organic photovoltaic power is superior in terms of environmental impact and disposal cost.

OPV is a rapidly emerging PV technology that has demonstrated the potential of improving cell efficiency (currently certified 18.2%), encouraging performance life (10+ years unencapsulated), and demonstrating the potential for roll-to-roll manufacturing using solution processing.
