The world’s first liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility was built.
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Co., Ltd. (DSME) held a platform naming ceremony on March 4th at Geojedo Island in South Korea, dubbing FPLNG SATU at Daewoo Shipyard in Okpo.
FLNG has many advantages over existing LNG production platforms for underwater gas fields. In the past, numerous industrial facilities were needed to excavate and process gas from the seabed. Fixed floating equipment was needed to send the excavated gas to land through long-distance pipes.
However, the FLNG platform has all the capabilities to manufacture and load LNG in the field. Unlike existing facilities, it does not require a large number of industrial facilities. After production in one place is finished, the ship can be moved to another gas field, making the transportation of the final product much easier.
