The Central Government has made FASTag mandatory for all old four-wheelers purchased before December 2017. The government has made it mandatory for the old vehicles of M and N categories to have Fastag by 1 January 2021. This new rule will come into effect from 1 April 2021. This rule has been made by amending Frame 51 (Certificate of Insurance). The government has also issued notifications in this regard.

As per the guideline released by the government on Saturday, FASTAG has now been mandated by amending the CMVR, 1989 of motor vehicles (four-wheelers) sold before January 1, 2021 i.e. before December 1, 2017.

Let me tell you that Fastag was made mandatory for new four vehicles from the time of registration and the vehicle manufacturer or their dealers were entrusted with the responsibility of supplying it. Apart from that the fit of fastag has been made mandatory for national permit vehicles from 1 October 2019. It has now been made more mandatory.

The aim of the government is to complete digital toll toll plazas. This can lead to many positive effects. When there are digital tolls, there will be no loss in revenue as well and the consumption of large quantities of fuel (petrol and diesel or gas) will also be reduced across the country.
