Mahindra and Mahindra recently removed the affordable variants of the new generation Mahindra Thar – AX STD and AX from the company’s official website. The company is now selling the expensive off-roader variants AX option and LX in the Indian market. When we contacted Mahindra for information on this news, the company told Car & Bike that, “Due to high demand, we are currently booking only AX (O) and LX of the new Thar.” However, the company has not clarified in its email when the affordable variants of the new Thar will be resumed.
The new 2020 Mahindra Thar is built on the new body on frame platform, which is larger in size than the previous model. The AX trim comes with Thar 16-inch steel wheels, fewer devices and no automatic gearbox. The 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic gearbox and more features are provided with the LX variant. The new Thar has been given a 2.0-liter Amstalian 15 TGDi petrol engine that produces 150 Bhp of power and 320 Nm of peak torque. The off-roader is also mated to a 2.2-liter mHawk 130 diesel engine that generates 130 bhp power and 300 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are also given the option of a 6-speed automatic gearbox, but only with the LX trim.
